THE WONDERING JEW

Back To The Caves

A column by Mike Littwin in this mornings Rocky Mountain News, part of which starts here. Headline: "Watch Now For The Finger-pointing To Begin."

"You can see why George W. Bush needs to get away to an island retreat over the weekend. This -- and since its wartime, we'll borrow from Churchill -- has not been Bush's finest hour. Wherever you stand on Iraq, you'd pretty much have to agree this is no way to start a war."

I don't want to say the U.N.'s Operation Enduring Discussion has turned into an embarrassment, but when the world's hyperpower has to grovel at the feet of Cameroon -- and you thought new soccer uniforms would secure their vote -- its not exactly a diplomatic success. Meanwhile, at this point the coalition of the willing can fit neatly into a booth over lunch at an Azores diner."

Mike goes on at length to discuss many things, such as, Colin Powell, the French, The Russians, Hans Blix, The, uh, intelligence community and the undecideds. Two things in there are interesting viewpoints, "Hans Blix. Blix is at the heart of Bush's problem because the chief weapons inspector keeps saying inspections might work."

"The, uh, intelligence community. Somebody's head must be rolling here. First there were reports out of London that somebody was spying on the Security Council delegation, and still they were getting the whip count wrong. And then somebody fell for the forged letter saying Iraq was trying to buy uranium from Niger. And who came up with the idea to make a big deal out of that duct-taped Iraqi drone, which looks like something your kid would fly in the park ?"

"The undecideds." starts out, "Somebody has to wonder what went wrong when you can't even get Mexico on your side." And goes on from there.

In my opinion the U.N. is polluted, tainted, contaminated, whatever one desires to call it. Seems to me the elements lacking there are common sense and true ethics. The laughable deliberations, the pending members of he security area, Kadafi et al. If we gave the land that the U.N. is on to them, then maybe we should tell the U.N. to move that land and buildings to some other territory. The unity of nations seems to have been lost for lo, these many years.

Now there is a scandal at the Air Force Academy over the treatment of female cadets. Memories of the Tail Hook scandal come to the surface of my feeble mind. Its becoming obvious I think that there is fire behind the smoke and mirrors. There should absolutely be no room for such things, ever. Can you imagine a female "wingman" who has been abused by an "honorable" male pilot doing anything but shooting him down first before accomplishing her mission ? Those men at the Academy should be so far above that kind of philosophy that nothing like would ever happen. The things that happened in the Tailhook scandal pretty well proves that that despicable type of thing had been going on for ages.

Looking at the things going on today it looks to me that in intelligence and actions we are headed Back To The Caves . . . . . . . .
