THE WONDERING JEW

Up To Vox Populi

I guess some of the silly nip-ups that pee the weeple do in Denver occasionally makes the national news.

There has been a proposal before the Denver City Council for a bit of time now.

I haven't read it in its entirety, but have read a bit here and there on it.

The City Council memebers passed it on to the voters, I hope the voters vote against it.

Kevin Vaughan in his Rocky Mountain News article headed, 'Peacefulness' ballot proposal still pushes councilman's buttons

, "City Council members passed on to voters a proposal that would require Denver to 'ensure public safety by increasing peacefulness.' "

"If voters approve the measure, Denver government leaders will be required to achieve that goal 'by defusing political, religious and ethnic tension both locally and globally -- through the identification and implementation of any systematic stress-reducing techniques or programs.' "

According to Mr. Vaughan, "Denver councilman Charlie Brown took time during Moday night's council meeting to deride the bill which goes to the voters Nov. 4., 'This is the one that mandates that everyone in the city and county of Denver have a nice day,' Brown said."

By golly the article mentions this, "The proposal's backers got the roughly 2,500 valid signatures needed to put the measure on the ballot. As a result, the Council had two options: implement the proposal outright or send it to voters."

Makes me wonder what those 2,500 folks do in their spare time ? Do they take time out to really think about anything ? Darn, even a dictatorship couldn't make that cloud nine stuff be real. And what the heck could Denver do globally that would defuse 'political, religious, and ethnic tension,' anyhow ? Even the U.N. the Pope and George Bush haven't calmed things down a bit. And I doubt that they ever will.

Why should the onus be put on Denver ? Why the heck doesn't that 2,500 people go out and do the miracle on their Monday morning coffee break ?

Is there a "silly season" in August in Denver ? Or is it dog days craziness ? At least the Council stayed clear of that while desiring the populace will realize that the reason there will be a vote the darn thing is because the council sees the laughable impossibility. So, in November that ball of worms will be Up To Vox Populi . . . . . . . . .
