i know the symbolism has been around for centuries, probably even before written records.

the snake in a circle, tail in mouth.

the emblem of eternity, the wheel of life, and in this day and age a symbol of monotony, the endless cycle of going to work, coming home, eating, sleeping, and back to work,

etc. ad nauseaum.

similarly today, the snake in a circle eating his tail is a good description, i think, of the business world, the endless intertwining swallowing of the little ones in mergers, and the big ones consuming each other also. what is the end ? one big snake digesting everything ?

what isn't merged, is consolidated or reorganized. are the laid off people to be considered the digested waste of the snakes ?

the hoop snakes are still rolling along, stocks going up, profits building up and people are having to get by on effective low wages. i am no statistician but it seems to me that the average joe is on a level with his grandpa and pa. enough income to house, feed, clothe, pay school fees, and have adequate transportation for all family.

that is provided he can afford an hmo for the family. the gist is that "joe" is basically in the same boat as his pa. enough income to survive, buy an occasional recreational thing like a book, a night out.........and not much more. of course in many ways we are better off than gramps & dad, more effective medicines, more knowlegeable doctory, more efficient machinery and cars, etc. but in the end, in the average home, the pennies have to be carefully counted and doled out for the necessary things before seeing if any disposable income is lying around for mom and the kids to enjoy.

the few advances in wages, working conditions, and benefits, often fought for in bloody battles or starvation are gradually being eaten bit by bit by the snake or given away by the apathetic workers.

you know the ones i mean, the ones who never go to a union meeting and take part - - - but just gripe to high heaven about the new contract. the white collar types i don't think are much better, the casper milquetoast attitude reigns there i think. and the types of both kinds who can only grab for the few pennies now, instead of trying for more at a later time, turn away from savings plans where employers contribute matching funds and so forth.

we fail, we fail, we fail to even strive for better if it takes some effort and planning and cooperating on our part.

guess i am glad that the upcoming problems will have to be coped with and solved by the young ones - - - - as we had to work with what was left for us. the hairy thing that bothers me is the "they" i keep talking about contain a group of my descendants.

what the higher power has left us, the miracles, the beauty, the bountiful things we need we are destroying and eliminating. finally some of the scientists are thinking that some of these new, weird ailments that are showing up now come from the organisms which were buried in the jungles until the commercial deforestation took over a big part of our world.

i can see the faults, i suppose every one can but as near as i can tell there is neither a solution in pre-production nor a prototype in existence.

i guess my brutal honesty is as bad as the dog and pony show, the smoke and mirrors and the output of bovine digested material we are being given to dull our understanding of what life is really about.
