THE WONDERING JEW

B A ?

Sometimes I wonder if a situation of common sense will ever be reached here.

A Rocky Mountain News article February 10 by Roger Fillion of the News follows in part.

State outsourcing bill killed

Measure would have restrained movement of jobs overseas.

"SB 170, in particular, would have required companies providing services or supplies to state agencies to certify that the employees working on the project operate from the United States."

"I'm talking about state jobs paid by taxpayer dollars," said Senator Deann Hanna, D-Lakewood, Colorado, who sponsoreds the bill. She added that taxpayer money shouldn't be funding jobs in countries such as India, China and Pakistan.

"Businesses in Colorado and across the nation have been taking partiular advantage of India's highly skilled, low-paid labor pool, much to the concern of domestic labor advocates in the United States. The Practice is on the rise."

"Businesses opposed the bill are saying it would hinder their operations."

"Heidi Heltzel, director of government affairs for the Colorado Association of Commerce & Industry, said, that in today's global economy "Almost everything you come across has components or services from other parts of the world. Its difficult to roll it all into one neat little package that is 100 percent American-made" she said."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To my opinion there should be some way to levy tax on corporations who utilize foreign labor to be used to support the laid off workers here in our country. I don't think the pursuit of the almighty profit dollar should be the prime motivation of corporations in our country without considering the effects of how what they intend to do will affect our people.

It is such a messed up situation now in our country and appears to me that the end result will make our people into third world citizens of the U.S.A.

Are any of the big brains here or Think Tanks trying to solve the problem of job flight for profit to the few and how it affects the people who here will lose their jobs ?

Complicating things is the inflow of alien immigrants from the south. I haven't seen a real sensible motivation that won't hinder our people. What the biggies keep saying is that Americans won't do stoop labor or work at menial positions. But if those employers would pay a decent living wage it seems to me that many of our folks would be working such jobs. Especially those who have been laid off and can't find jobs.

But take a man who is making house payments, car payments and meeting all the financial obligations Mr. Average Joe has and offer him a job in an unsafe, unsanitary, under minimum wage income, he and his would be absolutely starving before he would try his hand at a job that won't cover what he owes.

Some how things are stacked against the average man or woman it looks to me.

Heidi Heltzel and her comments, "Almost everything you come across has components or services from other parts of the world Its difficult to roll it all into one neat little package." Yep, that's the spin she puts on it, guess she thinks that the corporations have a valid excuse for what they are doing and everyone should feel righteous about this.

I read that we are making progress in tariff adjustments with Australia, which supposedly will be of benefit to both our countries. But Australia is not sending immigrants to come to the USA. I doubt if many of the the Aussies would come anyhow.

Adam Smith was essentially right I think, but not living in these times when there is so much more to consider.

Thinking back to the times when I was being raised there was a slogan of "Buy American" that still would be good if we were manfacturing here and keeping workers here. What ever happened to BA ? . . . . . . . . . . . . .
