Webster's Words

Dictionary-Schmictionary

Censoring and censorship is a loaded word - both in definition and justifiable use. By whose authority is it done ? What is the need ? IS IT NECESSARY ?

In every different area of life now some group or another is trying to keep our thoughts from being contaminated by frowned on books, movies, videos. And what will these groups do if completely successful ? Throw us in the slammer if we say a few curse words ? I think they would like to have the power to do so.

I am no historian, but have read enough history to know that our ancestors who came to this country seeking religious freedom for themselves - - were in the forefront of Censorious and Persecutionary people. They got their religious freedom, everyone else did too if they believed exactly that way. No room here for any other people to think any other way than theirs.

In civil life nowdays we are beset with attempts to censor our every thought. action and freedom to say that something is not believed in or doubted. We are having pitched battles over prayer in school - the political correct administrators who will let any zany group have a club in the school except a bible study club. And on the other side the opposition will not accept the fact that anyone can pray silently at any time. They want to have organized public prayer. The separation of church and state was instituted to prevent our country from running it's own approved church and to prevent the church from running the government. Learned history lessons pointed out that it is necessary. The wole ball of worms, is a whole ball of worms. Groups trying to be thought police against other groups trying to do the same - - only for different reasons and different aims, none of which are truly pertinent to the original intent.

In civil life. rather than parents trying to lead and teach by example they resort to censorship without realizing that their children have minds of their own and will think as they please - but will not discuss it with their parents to avoid discipline. To my mind parents should be training their children to exist out in the world rather than fence them in too tightly. The old, "Do As I Say, Not As I Do"- and the kicker, "Or else !" Greatly resented by most anyone who is capable of the least bit of independant thought.

So, Bastion, here we are again, the world in chaos more or less - - what say you ? Common sense shows that cruelty and hampering of movement of an animal can have disastrous effects on the perpetrator. Try to force a cat into a bucket of water for example. But as has been said over and over again, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it again." And bow and scrape and kiss-foot to the Censors who want to rule all of us. And then I get incoherent !
