THE WONDERING JEW

Hope

Today our son Rob's breathing problems had worsened to the state that the doctors did a tracheotomy for him.

His sister was with him until Heather and I got there as well as a son-inlaw of his. Late in the afternoon his oldest brother and mate arrived.

Rob was in ICU after surgery and hadn't quite come to before the medical folks put him back to sleep for awhile to ease his discomfort. I can imagine the trauma of a trtacheotomy and the attempt to learn how cope with such a thing.

They tell us that his trache-tube is a temporary one and one that will allow him to talk will be installed in a few days.

Only two of us at a time were allowed to be in there with him, when they put him to sleep we gathered in the waiting room and sat together (which happens seldom), prayed and exchanged information - made plans for whatever care he shall need after he comes home.

It is hard for us as it has been for many folks who have been in the same state. Looking forward to a good future for him but fearing the drop of the other shoe.

Our heart goes out to his two daughters who are there when they can be. They are still young enough that worry over their father is a definite problem to them.

A train wreck ? I think not -- that is life at its nadir -- but, we still have Hope . . . . . . . .
