THE WONDERING JEW

Spin Of THe Wheel ?

In the Rocky Mountain News today, buried way back in the middle items, just snippets, they are. There is an item - in full:

WASHINGTON -- Reform may help sick nuke workers

"The Department of Labor on Monday took over a much-criticized program to aid sick nuclear weapons workers, after President Bush signed the military spending bill that includes a wide-ranging reform of the program."

"Workers sickened by exposure to radiation or toxic chemicals on the job who applied to the Department of Energy program will receive letters explaining the transfer to the Labor Department."

"Town hall meetings are also being planned, though dates have not been set."

"The Department of Energy spent $95 million on paperwork in four years, but ended up with payments to only 31 workers. About 1,700 former Rocky Flats workers are awaiting action."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Opinions ? Damn right and here are some of them.

And so as with all workers damaged by exposure to toxics of any kind including nuclear, while they wait for help, they die one by one, and sometimes more.

The Department of Energy spent "$95 million in four years on paperwork but ended up with payments to only 31 workers" I wonder how many tax dollars will be spent by Labor trying to come up to speed, and how many more dollars will go down the tubes on "paperwork," ere a single worker gets any help ? And before help is received, how many ailing workers will die ?

The functions of our feral gummint seem to be jammed in all sections I guess. They can't seem to get it straight yet that the Native Americans have been cheated from the word go, and continue to be cheated over royalties. They are still stuttering, stammering and stumbling around -- yet have come up with not a thing that makes sense.

As jobs disappear, health programs promised workers are lopped off, work outsourced to other countries, our guys in Washington seem to be attracted to giving the corporations and the rich the right-of-way into Fort Knox, while the rest of us sit and wait to be helped as we deserve.

President Cheyney seems to be giving his spokesman the wrong words all the way around.

So, beginning as of tomorrow, what shall befall us on the next Spin Of The Wheel ? . . . . . . . .
