THE WONDERING JEW

Medley Lane

First the bad, the bitter pill. An article in this morning's Rocky Mountain News by Alan Fram of the Associated Press -- in part:

Congress Boosts Debt Limit

WASHINGTON -- "Congress sent President Bush an $800 billion boost in the federal borrowing limit Thursday, spotlighting how the budget has lurched out of control in recent years and how hard it will be to afford future initiatives."

"With the governmennt facing imminent default because it has depleted its authority to borrow money, the debt limit bill would pump up the federal borrowing cap to $8.18 TRILLION. That is 70 percent the size of the entire U.S. economy, and more than $2.94 trillion higher than the debt Bush inherited upon taking office in 2001."

End quote.

Then to tip toe through funnybone land. In our paper's comic section are among other things two one panel strips that usually tickle me. One today, "Committed" by Michael Fry is apropos of my last night's entry. A kid standing on the floor with the telephone near his head and the message coming from the phone is, "You have reached Kid Technical support. Punch one for foreign object displacement. Punch two for sugar-induced fidgeting issues. Press three if you've sucked your head in a bottle. Press four if . . ." Looking closely at the picture one can see that the kid's head is in a bottle. In the inset at the top the dog says, "The wait is approximately four hours. Breathe naturally."

So there is fun, fun in the comics. Another one panel is a favorite of mine and today hits me spang on the head. It is "Pluggers" by Gary Brookins. It shows the old dog scratching his upper arm and the caption, "You know you're a senior plugger when everything that doesn't hurt, itches." I wonder if Mr. Brookins passes out Plugger patches, think I've earned one, with chevrons.

There is a lady, one of my mentors Bonnie

Bonnie has been active in causes for children and the abused. There is a girl in her town who is in dire straits. Her family just received some bad news. Prayers, good vibes and what ever good thoughts that can be sent her way will be appreciated. Her grandfather has a website Jaslyn

This girl is not another Kaycee, but a very real courageous and loving little girl. Bonnie has visited her and her family, she is a real live person. She loves to get cards.

Also Bonnie put into my guest book something that is apropos of my last nights entry. About phones. Bonnie has a storehouse of things of interest.

Now guess I am, for the time being, recovered from the phone trauma of yesterday, the scars don't really show.

This one tonight, a sort of mix and match Medley Lane . . . . . . . . .
