FICKLE FINGER

The striving for supremacy goes on, and among the big dogs too. One small item in the mid-section of our paper, "The National Briefing" (the items that leave questions unanswered) in The Rocky Mountain News, today from the District Of Columbia - - - in full :

McCAIN SAYS CIA SHOULDN'T ESCAPE TORTURE PROPOSAL

WASHINGTON -- "Sen John McCain, author of Senate-passed legislation to bar abuse of prisoners in U.S. custody, on Tuesday condemned a White House plan to exempt employees of the Central Intelligence Agency from the torture ban."

"McCain, R-Ariz., a former naval aviator who was tortured and held prisoner for five years in the Vietnam War, said exempting the CIA would amount to "legitimize torture"

"The CIA has been implicated, but not charged, in several alleged cases of abuse in Iraq."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Then in part, here is an article by Ann Imse of the Rocky Mountain News. Short quote from that one:

"Adm. Timothy Keating head of the military's defense command for the United States, on Tuesday said he's proposing that the Depeartment of Defense be given complete authority for response to rare catastrophic disasters like Hurricane Katrina."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

******************************************

Seems that our administration is trying to keep a corps of torture handlers apart from any oversight or regulation by the rest of our government - such as Congress.

CIA being implicated but not charged sounds as if it is under the protection of the Hawks for sure. Wonder how many of those implied cases were involved in "rendition' ????

I would like to see some comment by Mr. Sutherland who was captive in 'Nam also -- tortured to boot. It is about time that those of ours who suffered under the enemy should have their say about our government advocating and pursuing torture of other nationals, internationals and just plain folks. I respect Mr. McCain in what he is trying to do and expect that the torture advocates will try to smear him with any kind of mud they can dig up.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

How to start a vicious dog fight I guess would be a good way to express what Adm. Keating is attempting.

In my personal opinion Homeland Security has not even come close to enabling various arms of any of the organizations they have under their thumb -- to be able to communicate with each other, even under an emergency like Katrina.

And if various arms even begin to think about Adm. Keatings ideas, the snarling and snapping is sure to begin,the way I look at it.

So, is this the way the "best of our best," are going to make any sense at all of the troubles we are in ? ? ? ? ? ? Looks again as if in operation is the FICKLE FINGER . . . . . . . . . .
