Power

I'm in a soul searching mood tonight. Yep, soul searched -- nobody home. Now what ?

Marveling at how puny is the power that one person has. How limited is the distance that one can walk, one can reach, one can throw. Even the greatest of athletes has limitations.

There is though, the power of people cooperatively combined in united effort to achieve a physical goal. Pretty hairy, huh ? Yet it sometimes inexplicably happens.

As a group, a melding of often ineffective minds has pushed civilization forward so fast and so far that often we stand dizzy, bewildered, dithering, puzzled as to which direction things should be steered for the most good for the most people.

Statisticians and historians have seen and can see the swing of the pendulm, the cycles of feast and famine. Then there are the economists who try to shape the future using evidence of what trend the course of financial matters was. Some of whom become top notch statisticians. Others go into macro-economics or micro-economics.

I think that often, we all go as groups, countries, hemispheres against the good advice from any of the intelligent advice given us and proceed down some disastrous road to hell that only a group of greedy damn fools would attempt, with no possibility of a successful outcome.

It seems that our new administration is attempting to force things in a direction most people don't want them to go. At least here is one man whose opinion is of that bent. Cycles caused by stupidities of bigotry, cruelty, selfishness intentional miserliness in many different directions, and spendthrift actions in other ways has society teetering on the edge all the time.

Life seems to be like riding a bicycle down a hill, doing a, "Look Ma -- no hands," until a pebble diverts the course of the vehicle and the rider crashes into a boulder. The pebbles come in many forms some of which are the stoniness of. "I got mine, and I am going to go further seeking more power and/or more wealth to the obvious detriment of others." Others are engaged in the attempt to force some one or some group to think the way the ones in power think, religious or political.

I think the power of prayer is often used in the attempt to achieve selfish goals, praying for good things but with the wrong reasons.

Dragging all people down the slippery slope of ignorant self destruction is the huge power of apathy, the I don't know and I don't care attitude until that power is demonstrated by the avalanche of disaster.

Often I look around at events in the middle east, the once differing groups called Yugoslavia shoved together by the most powerful countries of the world and try to estimate how wonderful thing all could be if only people, countries and religions could live in peace each wishing the other well.

Could it happen, will it happen ? Or will the course be just another blind attempt to scramble to the top of our self caused dung heap and be the biggest beetle of the bunch.

An oxymoron maybe, benign Power . . . . .
