WHY NOT ?

Way back in mid Rocky Mountain News paper of today in the "National Briefing" section, is a shorty that points up a problem that has not truly been considered. At least not to my mind has it been. Datelined WASHINGTON - - - - SEATTLE -- "Twenty two Chinese nationals were in custody Wednesday after they apparently let themselves out of a 40-foot long cargo container that had been used to smuggle them from China, officials said."

The 18 men and 4 women seemed to be in good physical condition after about two weeks in the container, said MIchael Milne, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection."

+++++++++++

Illuminates the fact that uncounted amounts of cargo containers from all parts of the world come into our ports each day of the year. Apparently most of them have not been inspected prior to lading aboard ship in whatever foreign port they originate.

So, it seems to me that methods of verifying the validity of cargo being loaded for the U.S. should be perfected.

How can any one or groups of ours know that there are no arms, poison gas or chemicals, nucular elements or terrorists in a cargo container ?

A vast question of epic proportions that appear to me to require brainstorming of majestic proportions.

Of course with Bush and Company wanting to keep our southern border wide open, perhaps the elements of terror and confusion only need to divert their efforts to coming in from our south. Why use cargo containers when they can walk or ride across in comfort ?

Perhaps some Draconian measures need to be taken to insure our security in our homeland. Maybe the feds should be doing their jobs -- or maybe doing jobs they should really be doing. Maybe those of the DEA who are putting folks in prison for marajuana usage, could be put to work making sure that cargo containers which are coming into our country are legit rather than filling our prisons with "victimless criminals." Of course with our jobs going out of country now, perhaps prison is the most reliable place to get room and board now.

Seems we are beset with problems of humongus proportions that have been abuilding like centuries. And as long as it puts money in some folks pockets, guess the problems will just keep getting bigger.

Perhaps a common sense solution would require some sacrifices on our part, other than giving up civil rights, and if someone should come up with the solution, let's give it a try, WHY NOT ? . . . . . . . . . . . .
