FAMOUS WORDS

I have heard several queries such as, "Who was Pastor Niemoller and what did he say ?"

I could go more deeply into this, but he spent eight and a half years in Nazi prison camps one of which was Dachau. He was a Christian Pastor. Due to the fact that he disagreed with the Nazis he went to prison.

I guess it was after the war that he said words that made him famous and caused many of us think about, "Not wanting to become involved."

I quote here:

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist."

"Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist."

"Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew."

"Then they came for me, and there was no one left to spak for me."

Along with that I ran into this bit of information:

Prior to and during World War II, Hitler's genocidal Nazi party used variations on the trangle to identify citizens and concentration camp prisoners according to religion, idology, sexual preference and numerous other categories.

Some of the symbols were

Yellow on Yellow (Star of David) - Jews

Pink Triangle - Homosexuals

Brown - Gypsies

Purple - Jehovah's Witnesses

Red - German Political prisoners - communists - socialists

Black - Vagrants and Lesbians

Green - Habitual Criminals

Blue - Imigrants

I think those of us who are all for a National ID card are treading dangerous ground. And those of us who DO NOT WANT TO BECOME INVOLVED will probably find that we are involved more deeply to our detriment than we ever wished to be by our "peaceful ignoring what is going on."

Paraphrasing somewhat, he who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it again, and again, and again. Maybe it is time that we pay heed to FAMOUS WORDS . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
