THE WONDERING JEW

Won't Hurt You

Looks to me that the effort to conceal facts and knowledge from us is rooted and blooming again in this Springtime of 2002.

And it also seems that most efforts are shot down by the very organizations who need to be corrected. One example is the effort to keep secret a report done by Colorado University during the infamous McCarthy's reign of terror using the House Unamerican Committee in dealing with the same thing that ruined the careers of many Hollywood people in the film industry. This blocked by one of the regents, I think it was he who said that possibly the report might be released with the names blacked out. Heh.

If McCarthy in his investigations had dropped back a little bit in time, back to the 20's say, he would have been able to nail a good portion of the citizens of this country for being members of the Ku Klux Klan. It was a popular thing to be one of the incognito white sheet organization. I think here in Colorado one of our governors and a mayor or two were members, active members. It was a popular thing for one to do back then and I think most joined to be in the herd because coworkers, neighbors and friends all belonged. I doubt that with the most of them there was any real thought of violence against anyone. In later life my Dad admitted to me that he once was a member and had attended a cross burning on Denver's Ruby Hill (I think it was there, if not then Welby Hill). He told me that most of the people he knew treated it as if it were a social club, in the 20's few people dared to go against the idea that people of a different color should be held down.

I think that people who toyed with becoming a Communist, maybe even joined it, later dropped out due to their lack of interest in pursuing it. Yet years later ol' Joe McCarthy and his crew dug up what they touted to be an unholy conspiracy against the United States. We had real Communists then and probably still do who kept walking a quiet path but were working to have it become a reality by peaceful means -- and of course there were also the rabid, rabble rousing types who hadn't been able to organize any mass destruction although they were trying to. Today we have the Militant Militias, is ol' Joe Mc carthy going to come back from the grave and hunt them down ? or enlist them in his service ?

Much of his work was secret digging and arm twisting to get testimony from scared people. This secret stuff has been a worm in the apple called the United States I think.

Ashcroft's efforts to nibble at our civil liberties seem to be alive still. The Pentagon's seemingly aborted OSI for instance, oh my, how that could have been perverted to control us all by some one using the power and privilege of the government.

From what has come out in recent years it looks like to me that J. Edgar had his secrets and was pursuing some objectives because of his private opinions.

Closer to home, here in Denver is the discovery that our police department has secret files, said files allegedly obtained illegally obtained . Denver Police kept secret files allegedly characterizing organizations such as The American Friends Service Committee as criminal extremists. When things like that begin to proliferate, how soon will our type of Nazi Krystall Nacht come into being ?

Not allowing a citizen to know a darn thing but doing as they wish and doing it in secret.

Another abuse by governmental and police powers is seizing property of citizens who haven't been convicted of any crime. Here in our area for ten years or more there have been efforts to prevent such things from happening. Who has been sinking such efforts ? According the the Rocky Mountain News Sunday March 31 2002 it has been a combined lobby of police and district attorneys. From what I have read here and there it is not just Colorado that those things are happening but in other states as well. I have also read about people innocent of any crime being unable to recover their assets and/or property after being proven innocent by the law. Also from what I have read our Federal Drug Enforcement people are active in that field.

It appears that most anything anyone tries to obtain through the Freedom Of Information Act somehow becomes, "sensitive information," yeah riiight ! sensitive I think in that the release of said information might reveal what jackasses some of our pooh-bahs are. Seems to me now that every part of our government is actively resisting releasing any information of any kind, and it seems to me also that it is getting worse.

Are civil liberties going to be narrowed down to the point that our population will only have the civil liberty to say, "Please, thank-you and excuse me.?" Is this the, "Dont ask (for information) and we (the government) won't tell ?"

I think it could be that our upper echelon is going on the weird premise of, "What you don't know Won't Hurt You." . . . . . . . . . . .
