THE WONDERING JEW

Troubled Waters

What childish ideas are afoot now ? Someone pondering making suicide bombing a crime ? How punish the perp ? Or punish another for his crime ?

Another case I guess of the Irrestible Force trying to do what ? Both seem to be competing for either or both titles. Push the Immovable Object out of the way ? Why not try to drain the sea bucket by bucket, pouring it into something that leaks the water back into the ocean ?

In our city of Denver our councilmen are mulling subsidizing developers so as to make ten percent of the houses they build affordable to low income people. Oh, yes someone noticed that the housing going up on old Lowry Field is out of a working man's price range. I also notice that the buildings first going up on old Stapleton Airport and going to be way out of the reach of a low income worker. The idea sold to the public was a mixture of housing for all sizes of pocketbooks. Money speaks the loudest and about the only low income housing Old Lowry is some old off the base housing which was for married officers, at least that is what I think it was the Air Force intended. And even so there will not be ten percent of the housing available in the Lowry area for low income people. So, if this is passed now our tax money will be going to developers 5,000 dollars for each affordable unit built. One thing I notice is that this will apply to a developer building 30 or more units. If that becomes the law, just how many 29 unit developments will there be ? Side by side maybe. Heh ! Has any of our double dome council realized that more than ten percent of our population are low income working people ? City Council approved that bill 8 to 3 and it will face a final vote and a public hearing on April 29th. It stinks - this should be put up the registered voters at an election to approve or disapprove. Most public hearings seem to be futile I think, I also think that the few that can be in the hearing rooms will not be sufficient to accomplish a darn thing. And of course the council can do what it decides anyway, regardless of the outcome of the hearing.

I do wish I could be the one who could calm the world over by pouring oil on its Troubled Waters . . . . . . .
