THE WONDERING JEW

Downgraded

It seems to me that a lot of our corporations here in the US have always had their finger in foreign development of outfits who will compete with US workers. Good Gravy, how long ago were Chips and Dips manufacturing sent over to the Far East ?

Before I retired one corporation was filming the operations of jobs here, putting together a training program in the language of the country where the film was to be shown. Then, the machinery involved was shipped out and one or two production experts from the corporation were shipped with the machinery and the job to a foreign country.

Could it be the dog eat dog competition between stockholder and the working stiff ? I think so, the work can profitably be done there by paying lower wages, no benefits, caring less about working conditions and safety of the workers.

Seems like the administration is in the process of bleeding us into a nation of, "'Ja want fries with that ?" employees. What then ? Are they going to ship the people here from overseas to patronize the Burger Barns of our country ? If we end up shorting people here who are trainable of the education to move up in favor of bringing in more aliens -- what's fair about that ?

So what's new now ? Seems like the Bushinistration wants to cancel one of our country's job-training programs. So, the idea I guess is to cancel a high-tech job-training program for Americans and use the funds to speed up processing for imported workers.

So now the corporations don't want factory workers, nor do they want technical people - - - - what the hell is left for us ? ? ? ?

Says here in the news article, "In a little publicized item in the federal budget for next year, however, the Bush administration said that the job training efforts --"Have not been proven to be effective," -- "Beginninng next fall, the plan calls for redirecting the money to reduce the years' long backlog for certifying permanent (PERMANENT ?) foreign workers."

Some thoughts advanced agree that the programs have missed the mark, but they argue they should be reformed - not ended."

The old saw, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," can be turned around to, "If it is broke, then dammit, FIX IT." Does my idea that the American public is being scrapped six ways from Sunday just to make a few extra dollars for the stockholders and the CEO's, hold water ? It sure looks like it to me.

To what level are we to be Downgraded ? . . . . . . . .
