THE WONDERING JEW

Umpteenth Verse

Trying to remember -- is it chickens who peck to death any of their breed who are different, have sores or scabs ? I do remember that I have seen ducks do that way. Around our apartment complex amongst the many ducks there was a crippled duck, not swift enough or strong enough to get a morsel of the food that was cast on the waters of our apartment complex pond. I remember seeing one of the other ducks leave the bounty that had been strewn to cruelly chase off the crippled duck from a little bite.

It actually is beyond me why a supposedly intelligent Yalie should decide the Constitution must be amended to define marriage. And between a man and a woman is the only way to go. I can't remember seeing anything in our Constitution defining marriage to begin with. There are those who claim that marriage is so very sharply defined.

I think it is time for all of us in this country to back off, look at ourselves and give the people who are different from us in some way or another, equal rights. Peaceful citizens should not be refused the same rights that others have to my way of looking at it. Regardless of my own personal beliefs and way of life -- they are mine and if I choose to live that way and DO NOT try to forbid any of the rights that we have to those who are different, they are after all human too, shouldn't life go on in a normal manner if we all feel that way ? And why can't we live and let live ?

So I wonder what is next ? I am not a lawyer but it seems to me that if a man and a woman live together for more than a certain specified time they are in a common law marriage. Will things like that be the next thing forbidden ?

People are flocking to San Francisco to be married. Its in the news, along with forty million opinions pro and con. Any television program I have seen that included those who were waiting to get married, I saw no IN YOUR FACE types, just peaceful folk trying to get married.

I can see that a church can refuse to recognize same sex marriages which basically means that they may not be members of that church if they are in a same sex bonding. But I do not believe that the rights of man woman marriage should be refused to same sex marriages.

In today's world I have seen staunch pillars of the church a town or two away from home cheating on their wives with a woman from their town, patronizing a house of ill repute and some times both, and then are the folks who destroy a marriage by drugs or drink. Most of those people are in a man woman, so called, marriage.

So I guess Mr. Bush wants to change the Constitution to fit his idea (and those of his churchified clan) to deny human rights to those who don't feel the same way as he does -- and who are no threat to anyone else, just different.

I think I have worked with and was friends with folk of most any nationality, belief, and who had quite different life styles than we did. On many jobs that was true.

In many cases our folks came from Europe seeking "religious freedom." They arrived at our shores and obtained religious freedom and set up their church. One had religious freedom only if he or she BELONGED TO THAT CHURCH. Things were pretty tight for a long, long time. Marriage between blacks to whites has only been legalized in recent years. Prior to that it was a crime for that to happen.

Whither goest we ? The windmills of my mind are turning, churning, burning and I seem to be feeling that things are repetitious and cycling endlessly, same Hymn Of Hate. Not sure, it seems so same-o, same-o and to be the Umpteenth Verse . . . . . . . . . . . . .
