THE WONDERING JEW

'Tis All Talks

According to Martin Crutsinger of the Associated Press, in today's Rocky Mountain News. In part:

Poverty Tops IMF Talks

"But activists say promises of aid not backed up by cash."

Washington -- World finance ministers vowed Sunday to do more to deal with the crushing burden of global poverty, promising help in such areas as education, debt relief and AIDS."

"But activists said the weekend meetings of the 184-nation International Monetary Fund and World Bank failed to back up the warm words with cold cash."

The three days of financial discussions concluded wih a World Bank session focusing on what needs to be done to meet the United Nation's "Minimum Development Goals -- cutting poverty in half by 2015, boosting the fight against AIDS and educating 100 million children not now in school.

+++++++++++++++

The rest of the column deals with some of the efforts partially done, others planned and others proposed.

My personal feeling is that all this is pure posturing, trying to put a good face on making others think they can forsee a possible solution to the worlds ills. Cut poverty in half in 11 more years ? The middle class in the U.S. is disappearing. One of the big causes of poverty is war and armament. Another is caused by the greed in some corporations and government organizations. Another is the misapplication of funds and material sent in relief. Who am I to try to explain anything ? No one I guess, but now and then I see something ridiculous and say so.

Boiled down it seems like 'Tis All Talks . . . . . . . . . . .
