I get to be first, Doug? The situation in Darfur has been desperate for a long time, and will get worse. I hope the appeal from Clooney et al will have an effect but fear the worst.

I echo John's wishes also. It seems all the ordinary person can do is pray for them.

Congrats on your comments section Doug. And thanks to Stephanie for helping you. Funny how some things change like the old guestbooks now morphing into comments sections... I agree, this mindset that allows such genocide to occur is beyond inhuman, it's evil...and before our leaders pronounce others as being in the "axis of evil" they should look in the mirror and see what lurks there...

What ever happened to "lest we forget?" Selective memory stinks.

It's always oil, isn't it? (Did I say that? Um, did I say it before?) Above all, it's greed, a case of "I got mine, you know where *you* can go now."

YAY! Comments! Whoo hoo! Now it seems odd to talk about genocide after that little happy dance over your new comments section. You're right though, the people of Dafur are poor and black and don't have anything our rich white rulers want. What does it matter to them if millions of poor black people are murdered in Africa? Didn't they let the poor of New Orleans drown and die too? And that's right here at home. ~LA

Darfur is terribly sad. UN is terribly useless.

I was at my exercise place and two of the ladies were talking about Darfur and wondering why we didn't do more, and I said exactly that: "There's no oil in Darfur." They looked at me like I had three heads. (Yay for comments!)

And don't forget that some of the cimes in Darfur have been committed by the UN troops.
