And Im afraid that our education system is only going to get worse before it gets better if it does get better. There is a television game show here now hosted by who else, Jeff Foxworthy titled Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader where parents are pitched against a slew of fifht graders. And from what I have seen on the promos, the parents cant even compete. What message does this send out to the kids? That if you dont learn, no big deal, its just a joke. I mean, everyone is laughing at how funny it is that mom and dad cant get this right. Yeah. Thats great for that group of fifth graders but what about the fourth graders coming up. If mon and dad dont have to do it then why do we. The dumbing of america. Its sicking. The Canadians know more about American History than Americans. How sad is that. Sheesh.

I work in the field of education, and it is true that we are expected to perform miracles. You'd think they'd at least supply us with magic wands, or something... Sigh.

And don't forget the Lake Wobegone effect: all of our children must be above average. Heh! A year or so ago a member of the City Council in a major California city (San Diego, I believe) complained about the math program in the city school system because half of the children failed to score above average.

One of the nicest things my daughter ever said about me was: she saw the bumper sticker that says "Eschew Obfuscation" and said "My mom knows what that means". I do, too. 8^D
