Thanks for sharing these great memories. Grit? When I was a kid they used to run ads on the back pages of comic books listing all the great prizes you could win by going door-to-door selling subscriptions to Grit. If I recall, there was some kind of soap company that used to run similar ads. I was always tempted by those great prizes, but since I had never seen anyone reading Grit nor seen it on any newsstand, nor had ever even heard of it outside of those ads, I never mailed in the coupon.

Oh, that was lovely. I especially like the part about men on horses singing songs as they rode and passed your grandma's house. You've had such a wide variety of experiences. Thanks for sharing them with us.

A great story. I enjoyed reading it a lot. Grit. I wonder if it is still published. I've seen a few issues but that was quite awhile ago.
