Boy, can I sympathize. My sick bank benefits ran out a few weeks ago, and worker's comp hasn't kicked in, which means I'm not getting any money. This is scary, because we need both paychecks to make ends meet. I wish your granddaughter the best of luck.

I can recall going through a string of "you're over-qualified for this job" responses. I had started computer study in grad school but needed a job. The last straw was when a company turned me down for a third shift janitorial/cleaner job -- "We can't hire you for this job; you have a college degree!" (Amusingly, about twelve years later the same company hired me as a senior systems analyst.) I had just about determined that I was going to lie on my next job application and claim I only had a high school diploma and had been working in the warehouse of a company that (conveniently) had just gone out of business... but fortunately my next interview got me a job. Wishing good luck to your daughter and her family.
