I think that is a good idea Doug. Years ago, when I first had my journal on Geocities, I was in the habit of writing it online in the Geocities Web page editor -- but after losing entire entries, I switched to writing my entries on my computer and only moving them to Geocities after I was finished. Now I write entries on my computer and when I am finished I FTP them to my domain on Verve Hosting. (That's a plug, by the way -- I've been using Verve Hosting for almost three years now and I have never had any down time. They are hosting four Web sites for me and all of them have been trouble-free.)

It's so disheartening when one's witty, literate entry is flushed down the Black Hole of Electrons. Now I do the same as you--I write my entry in Word, then cut/paste into my journal. Heaven forbid y'all should miss one of my pearls of wisdom! Even with comments...when I've written a comment, I highlight and copy it, just in case, before clicking OK or done!
