I've had several long streets in my life... the first in Albuquwrque, Central it was. Can't remember the # of the highway, but I never lived more than a block from it while we were there. And then there was Market street (now Owen K Garriot) in Enid, OK... we lived a block from that one too. Highway 64. it was. And finally, Topeka Boulevard, highway 75, here in Topeka. The first and last have gone downhill, due to bypass influences, while 64 in Enid drew all of the businesses to it, while the N/S 81 degenerated.

Doug: When is was in grade school every summer for one week end our family would go to a Camp Meeting on 5700 S Broadway in Denver. This was pre-I-25, we came in from the north on the old highway and got on Broadway as soon as we got to town. I remember how excited my sisters and I were to see the new action neon signs each year. Many years later I sold cars at Burts just north of the old campgrounds.
