"Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl is one of my all time favorites. The principles he learned and expressed in this book...such as... "one thing that can never be taken away from a human being is the ability to choose how he will react to a given situation"...and that "there are only two races of people, kind and evil"...(not exact quotes)...are life changing.

My reading of Man's Search for Meaning after my husband and son died was a turning point for me. It helped me to realize that we have no choice in what happens to us, but we do have a choice in how we think about things. When I saw a little guy in a Little League uniform riding his bike down the street, I could think about the thousand times I hadn't been a perfect mother, or the horrible pain my son had endured the last few conscious moments of his life, or I could go to all the funny little things he had done in his life...the things that made us all laugh...and how affectionate he was. My choice. It helped me get through some really hard days. Lots to learn from that little book. I still pick it up once in awhile...that and Gift from the Sea are two books that never leave my book shelf and get read and read again...at different stages of my life.

Frankl's book is really amazing. My psychology professor in college recommended it, and i've never been without a copy since. Can't tell you how many times i've re-read it over the years. Joan, Frankl helped me survive my husband's death, also. Acceptance is made up of daily choices as to whether we will remember the good or the bitter. Cheers to a wise man!
